Throwing & Hand-Building Pottery Day Workshop
Curious about ceramics and keen to try the potter’s wheel? Spend a full creative day in Charlotte’s friendly studio and learn the foundations of both throwing and hand-building.
Each student will have their own wheel to work on throughout the day, so you’ll get plenty of hands-on practice.
You’ll be guided step-by-step through:
- Wheel throwing fundamentals: how to
- centre your clay
- pull up the walls
- shape your pot
- safely remove your pieces from the wheel
- Hand-building techniques such as slabbing
- Surface design: adding pattern and texture to clay
- Decoration techniques including sgraffito
By the end of the day, you’ll have tried both wheel work and hand-building, and created your own unique pieces to be fired and finished.

Workshop Details
- Price: £140 per person
- Group size: Maximum of 6 people, with a wheel each and plenty of one-to-one support
- Time: 10:00am – 4:30pm (with a 1-hour lunch break)
- Includes: All materials and light refreshments
- Please advise of any allergies when booking
- Lunch: Not included – there are lots of lovely shops and cafés in Poole to explore
- After the workshop: Your pots will be dried, fired, and ready to collect at a later date
